I used to be in love with the 1982-83 Yamaha Vision. I was a member of a (still existing) riders group called the Riders of Vision. Riders of Vision members mostly spent their time modifying their bikes to eliminate a lot of niggles Yamaha never had time to design out of the bikes. Most of their time is spent trying to figure out how to keep stator coils from frying. Five thousand miles on a stator was good. I would carry a spare and sealant in my tankbag and had several times swapped one out on cross-country trips by laying my bike on it's side in a ditch and letting the oil drain aside and pulling it that way. It was a DOHC 8V 70deg 550cc V twin. Watercooled and shaft drive. The engine was designed by the same genius Yamaha guy that later used the same basic design to make the original VMax and Venture engines (except they as we all know were V4s) Properly "tweaked" it handled pretty good and was a VERY comfy bike to do long rides on. I owned 4 of them altogether but my red one was the best ![]() ![]() It had the front forks from a Japanese version, the rear "Euro" gear on the shaft from a french bike and tons of other goodies. Man do I love my SV650. Over 50K miles in two seasons and NO STATOR FAILURE!!!

Visions were ahead of their time. Very cool bikes.
