Shock The road that made Johnny cry....

Some may remember Johnny pouting about the horrible shortcut we took at the Gap last year. Now I find out people ride this road on bicycles.

Seriously - does this look scary?

HOLY CRAP! I know that road! About 14 years ago My X () was reading the map while I was driving the motorhome. She routed me onto it and I like to NEVER find a place to turn around. Somehow I even managed to pass a pickup truck on it. My oldest son went to the back and got my pistol and put it in his pocket.

Uh yeah......riding a 20lb bicycle is a bit different than a 400lb rocket...

I dont remember any of that scenery...guess i was too busy crapping my pants. Those pictures are no representation of the road and elevation changes.

Way back in 1978, (a year before we were married) the Mrs and I were in my brand new 1977 Olds Cutlass Salon, with two of her brothers behind us in a new 1978 Trans Am.
We has gone to Gatlinburg for a few days and were on our way to Myrtle Beach. We found some little two lane on the map that looked scenic so we decided to give it a try.
It was great for a while, then suddenly....it changed to gravel. So, us being paranoid about stone chipps on our babies, we were crawling along at 15 mph. This road was traveled so little, the grass that had been cut was still lying on the sides of the road and the grass had already grown about 6 inches.
Talk about hearing banjo's, we saw little shanties down in the hollows.

There are some pretty steep sections, I would not want to try it on a bike in the wet.

The scenery is awesome though!
