Default When Is An Old Covered Bridge Not An Old Covered Bridge?

A:Paraphasing Edger Allen Poe...when it is a "Bridge Within A Bridge."

Last year the good people at ODOT did a BIG favor for all the riders in S.E.O. when they paved SR669 from Crooksville over to McConnelsville.I imagine that most of the riders that travelled 669 from north to south remember the dairy farm with the 90 degree turn after the barn. There is also a gravel road in the middle of that turn,if you take that gravel road for about a mile you will come to this covered bridge...

As you approach it,the Helmick cover bridge looks like it just got some new siding and a fresh coat of paint.

Once you get inside you see a whole new bridge. These new arched beams with metal rods attach to new beams underneath the old structure that support the old bridge.Basically a bridge within a bridge!

Yet with the new bridge supporting the old structure you still get the covered bridge experience and outward appearance.Very cool!Way to go MoCo.

Both beautiful and neat. Thanks for sharing with all of us northern Ohioans that might never get to see such a sight.

Is this some sort of ironic joke? Come to northeast corner, we have more covered bridges than you can shake a stick at, including the newest, shortest and longest in the country.
