Default Help with a title

Hi all,
When I bought the TE400 back in Feb09, it didn't have the certificate of orgin or a title. I did get a Bill of Sale, but its a hand wrriten and its not notarized. Anyone have a clue how I can get it titled so that I can ride in the Forrest of SEO.
I will be home from the hot dust in Aug/Sept for a break if anyone wants to do some weekday riding.

Where was the original title?

I've known people to use this company with good results. They will get you a Nevada title after doing a search for reasonable money.

I posed this very question to the Ask Titles email address for the state, and I was told the only way to get a title in your name is to have the existing title. To them, a bill of sale doesn't mean anything.
If you contact the suggested title service, please let us know how you fair.

I think there has to be a way. Heck, dirt bikes didn't require titles until the last 10 years or so......maybe even less. There has to be a way.

The seller did not recieve the title when he purchsed the bike. I am the third, not counting the dealer, owner of the Husky.

I guess my question would be why would you buy a bike that you intended to use on the street that does not have a title and why would the seller have bought the bike without a title. If you know who the original owner was just track him down and see where the title is or have him apply for a replacement title like he still owned the bike. That is unless this thing is hot.

Sorry if I was a bit mis-leading...My Husky is a TE model and is an off road only vehicle. Under the ORC in order to get a National or State Forest permit you have to have a title. Without this permit or commonly known as a OHV Registration you can not legally go to places like Wayne National Forest and commune with nature.

The person from which I purchased the bike bought it the same way I did. He bought it to race so a state permit was not on his aganda. I have a Bill of Sale an address, Operators license number and other data of the person I purchased the Husky from. I trust that the guy I got the bike from is honest. I knew when I bought the Husky that there was no title or certifucate of orgin, but honestly I was so stoked on what I was getting that the need for one seemed very minor at the time. In other words I thought I could BS my way into a premit....not so!

My other issue is that I work in Iraq, so getting anything done is limited to those few days that I spend in the states. These visits back home are rare and short. Being this is an Ohio Ride website I was poking in the dark to see if anyone had a clue how I could deal with my wallet getting the better of my common sense.

Is it still muddy?

Sounds like they are giving you a run around. Check out this site.
http://bmv.ohio.gov/misc/apv.htm

Print it off, it sounds like you have or could get two or more of the items you need two of.
The Deputy Registrar license agency people like to have things easy, but if you give them the proof that you have all the right stuff you can get them to take it.

Good luck.

OK here is a little more info for you, that I found on another site.

Follow-up report....

I went to the title office today and...got in a big argument, as predicted.

Basically, they insisted that I need an out-of state inspection, even though the Title office website and the BMV webisite both say otherwise (CincyChuck was right). Her argument was: "The BMV can't tell the title office what to do". So, I spent the next 1/2 hour on the phone with the BMV in Columbus, only to learn that the online info (linked in my post above) is no longer valid, and should have been removed from the website. VIN pencil rubbings are no longer acceptable.

So, now I have two alternatives...

1) Get on out-of-state inspection and present a notarized bill of sale, or
2) Go to the Court of Pleas and convince them to declare me the legal owner

I plan to get the inspection done, but it really sucks that people repeatedly take time out of thier day, present all of supposedly required documents, and still get turned away.

On the bright side, I spent a lot of time on the phone today complaining and notifying people that these websites are inaccurate and need to be chagned. Hopefully this saves somebody else from having the same problems in the future.

Final follow up... Finished everything today.

The title office required an out of state inspection and my notarized bill of sale in order to issue me an Ohio title. Title fees were $7. They also charged me sales tax, even though it was purchased in Kentucky. I'm glad I brought the Kentucky memo (see first post), to help the title office clerk understand why I couldn't provide a Kentucky title.

The Ohio BMV required my title and a driver's license in order to issue me a 3-year ORV permit sticker. Permit fee was $8.50.
