Default Ohio > Key West & return

I'm planning to ride my 2012 V*950T to Key West in late September - returning early October. (I'm not new to long trips - did 6000+ miles a couple of years back in 16 days when I was only 74 y/o).

So what should I avoid in Florida? Areas/highways to avoid?

What areas/events do you recommend seeing/doing?

SWMBO will be in the car - we'll have CB communications.

Dave

Things to Avoid
1. police man and woman
2. long straight roads
3. Going any farther south then the sign that states "southern most point" on your bike.

4. Toll roads if at all possible.

For the most part I hate Florida, but I would like some day to ride through the Everglades and across the bridges to Key West. Its the long, hot, boring ride from when you leave the mountains until you get to the Everglades that has prevented me from doing this. Someday.

Other than getting a photo at the southern most point marker I have no desire to ride anywhere in Florida.

We have relatives in st Mary's Georgia and visit occasionally. But never on the bike.

Sorry I don't have anything positive for the OP

Sorry, we have not been much help about your trip. Well beside we don't like long, straight, hot, flat and busy roads.

You might consider US 421 from Lexington, KY to just west of Charlotte, NC then US 17 down the coast to north Florida, then US 1 or A1A down the coast of FL.

421 has lots and lots of curves, mountains, and beautiful scenery. US 17 has lots of old south history along the way, some lazy curves through SC and GA, and US 1/A1A has all the beach and ocean views you could ever want.

I did the 421/17 trip last summer from SW Ohio to Orlando in 2 days and really enjoyed the trip.

Of course, US 1 through the Keys, even though pretty straight, has all the great views you could ever want. I have made the trip from top to bottom through the Keys on the bike and in the motorhome, and was never disappointed.

Hey there Balddguy,

Despite the naysayers on this forum ( Gesh guys), I say go with your VISION and enjoy the ride.

RIDE ON......

What he said...lol. Give me a day and I'll see if I can find my route we took last time there...it kinda wandered all over including the Chief White eye trail near Cincy and the Natchez Trace parkway in Alabama.

I don't mind Fla. It's different than Ohio. Cypress, Willow, Palm trees, all kinds of different birds, Ocean, a different smell. Yea it can be straight, hot and buggy and blue hairs will pass you in Buicks and Caddys on both sides without being able to see over the steering wheel, but it's all good.
